Twisted yarn − Ancient technique to create beautiful shades of textile

The Tango region has been manufacturing fabrics, mainly silk, for 1,500 years. They basically produce white fabric, which is extremely rare. However, it is not just a plain white fabric. It has a very complex unevenness that creates shades of color. This complex and delicate shading is created by a twisting technique that began to be used about 300 years ago. Tango’s twisted yarns are characterized by the fact that they are twisted as strongly as approximately 3,000 times. This is made possible by the humid climate of Tango and the special technique of twisting while applying water. Fabric made in this way is called Tango Chirimen (Crepe). The craftsmen of Tango Chirimen are professionals who master these techniques at the highest level in the world.

It can be said that the test will be how designers make the most of this white canvas of fabric co-creating with them.
